Mr. Queen (TV Series) – Intro

Mr. Queen (Korean: 철인왕후; Hanja: 哲仁王后; RR: Cheorinwanghulit. Queen Cheorin) is a 2020–2021 South Korean television series. Directed by Yoon Sung-sik, it stars Shin Hye-sun as Queen Cheorin and Kim Jung-hyun as King Cheoljong.

The drama is about Queen Cheorin finding herself with the soul of a modern-day man inside her body, and King Cheoljong striving to be a king who helps his people. It aired on tvN every Saturday and Sunday at 21:00 (KST) from December 12, 2020 to February 14, 2021.

Despite its controversies, the series is the seventh highest rated drama in Korean cable television history, with the last episode reached a nationwide rating of 17.371% and garnering more than 4 million in viewership. It also set a record for tvN by achieving the 5th highest rating in the network’s history.

In the modern age, Jang Bong-hwan (Choi Jin-hyuk) is a chef who works at the Blue House. He has a free spirit, but one day finds himself in the body of Queen Cheorin (Shin Hye-sun) in the Joseon period.

King Cheoljong (Kim Jung-hyun), the reigning monarch, is a gentle and easy-going person. However, he is only King in name, while the true power is wielded by the late King Sunjo’s wife, Queen Sunwon (Bae Jong-ok), who has relegated Cheoljong to a figurehead.

Queen Cheorin soon discovers that the King is not what he seems, and that he has a dark and suspicious side to him.

Mr. Queen plot summary

Mr. Queen is about a modern man who is taken back in time to the Joseon era and takes over the body of a queen and gets involved with a secretive king that hides his intelligence and his true personality. The overall theme of this series is about the queen played by Shin Hye Sun finding herself with the soul of a modern-day man inside her body, and King Cheoljong striving to be a king who helps his people.

Mr Queen achieved the second highest Premiere Ratings Of Any Weekend Drama In tvN History. It first aired on December 12 2020 going straight to No. 1 ratings right out of the gate. According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “Mr. Queen” scored an average nationwide rating of 8.0 percent and a peak of 9.9 percent, taking first place in its time slot across all cable channels. It even broke the perfect score in the metropolitan area of Seoul where it managed to break into the double-digits and reach a peak of 11.0 percent for the night. It also achieved the second-highest viewership ratings of any weekend drama in tvN history to date. As of  now, “Mr. Queen” has been beaten only by the 2018 hit “Mr. Sunshine,” which premiered to an average nationwide rating of 8.9 percent.

Who should watch Mr. Queen

This drama series is more of a romantic comedy as we deal with the royal relationships with the Queen and the King, the Queen and her cousin etc, however we view see these relationships with the body of a modern man to add insult to injury. Therefore this series is great wether you like comedies and romances as it has both.
